Mother’s day @ Kirkstall Abbey

It was my first mother’s day this year, so my husband, daughter & I went for a stroll around Kirkstall Abbey. It was a lovely day and there were spring flowers popping up amongst the ruins. A welcome sight after a cold winter!

They were also running trains on the Kirkstall Light Railway, so we had the chance to take Millie on her first train ride. Allbeit a short track, the train enthusiasts were out in force, and it was worth the couple of quid for a return trip!

Afterwards we went to the Abbey Gatehouse cafe for afternoon tea. It was even warm enough to sit outside on the patio overlooking the Abbey. The cakestand arrived laden with finger sandwiches (egg, ham & mustard and tuna), chocolate eclairs and carrot cupcakes. Washed down with a cold glass of White wine & a good old Yorkshire tea it felt very posh!
