Snowy Pudsey

Our lovely little girl Millie is one tomorrow, so today we went out for Sunday lunch to Diva Italiana in celebration of what we’ve achieved in the last year! Lunch was excellent, but as I’ve blogged about it fairly recently I won’t go into details just now. While we were up in Pudsey we had a quick nip round the park to enjoy the snowy scenery, and to attempt to walk off a few of the calories consumed! (Erm, I totally walked off the panna cotta….)

Anyway, the park was beautiful in the late afternoon light despite it being about -2 degrees. Everything green was dusted with snow, and then the snow started to fall again and it felt like we were inside a snow globe! I was really impressed to see some beautiful red winter roses blooming amongst the snow and ice, and it reminded me of why we chose Rose as Millie’s middle name.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

It was a cool but bright Sunday afternoon for a walk at the Sculpture park. There were lots of families similarly well wrapped up enjoying a bit of fresh air, which was great to see. We walked from the visitor centre down to the lake and then up to the Long Gallery on the hill. It felt like it was really the end of the autumn leaves as most of them seem to have dropped by now. Millie enjoyed sitting on daddy’s shoulders and trying to pick the leaves off the lower branches, and also having a toddle through the carpet of leaves on the ground.

I always think that the Sculpture park is great value at £4 to park all day, and it really is a year round attraction. My only gripe with it is the cafe is a little pricey. But you do get a great view, even from the cafe, and I suppose if it is subsidising the upkeep of the grounds, then it’s probably justified.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside…

The last weekend before my return to work we spent a lovely weekend in Scarborough with some of our friends from our NCT group. It was a milestone of survival of the ‘new baby’ stage, making new friends and evoking old childhood memories. We took the babies to the beach and they felt the sand in their toes for the first time – ever. As an adult you can’t imagine how strange that must be, but it was magical to see their inquisitive faces. I would like Millie to grow up appreciating the simple things like a day at the beach.

Otley Chevin

A few weeks ago we had one of those fantastic sunny but cold early spring days. On the lookout for a good day trip we decided to venture to Otley to visit Cheerful Chilli (who I heard about on Twitter – @cheerfulchilli)

Cheerful Chilli is a vegetarian cafe/restaurant on the edge of the Chevin. We had a couple of very tasty paninis (great homemade pesto!) and a giant scone with jam & cream. It was a bustling place full of families with a great atmosphere.

For anyone who likes walking, the woods and the views across the valley are amazing. I took my lomo camera and took some great pictures!

Harewood House

I spent a lovely day at Harewood House on Saturday, luckily with the nicest weather of the bank holiday weekend! My husband had arranged for me to borrow a friend’s digital SLR camera to play with for the day, which was great fun. We spent ages photographing the birds and the trees and trying to ‘frame’ the pictures well, as I have been learning about in a book called ‘The Photographer’s Eye’. The question is now, whether to save up and buy my own digital SLR…..
