Archive for Present Ideas

The begginings of a felt tea party…..

I thought I’d share a picture of my most recent craft project, which I had to keep under wraps until this weekend. It was my friend Vicky’s daughter’s first birthday, and I had decided to buy her a tea set so the babies could follow in our footsteps of enjoying tea and cake! However, the crucial element to this idea was having the cake too…… and how better to create it than using felt!

Strangely enough I had been inspired by a piece of crocheted battenberg I had bought from the pannier market in the summer. I set about trying to recreate it using yellow and pink felt, and stuffing it with toy stuffing. It only took about an hour and I was pleased that the finished item was recognisable!

Next I had a good search on Folksy for ideas, and came across a wealth of ‘fake food’ that clever folk had sewn. I liked the idea of a gingerbread man, like the ones made by Pipinopolis and had a go at drawing one. It was quite a tricky shape to sew and turn inside out and it ended up slightly out of scale with the battenberg… but not bad for a first attempt.

Sadly I ran out of time to make anything else in time for Holly’s birthday…. but I’m not ruling out expansion of the felt food emporium in the future. :)

Decadent muffins

Catching up on blog posts from the last month….

I received a box of amazing muffins for my birthday in January. They were from a website called Sara Louise Kakes. You get 9 enormous muffins wrapped in cellophane & bows inside a large silver box with a bow. Each muffin is also bubble wrapped so they make it through the post intact.

The box I received had a mixture of flavours, chocolate flake, toffee choc, lemon, blueberry, blackcurrant. The flake ones are especially good with a gooey chocolate centre! They are large & rich so you can share 1 between 2, or scoff a whole one if you feel like a treat! You can also order other combinations of muffins & brownies, starting off at about £20.

This was a great present for a cake lover & easily lasted a week in terms of freshness. I took some to a coffee morning with friends from my antenatal group and they went down a storm.
