Mini-bunting!

My lovely husband decided to paint our ensuite bathroom last week when I was at work. After 4 years of living in a magnolia house, we are slowly getting there on the decorating front! The problem with painting is that it provokes further embelishment so now it needs something nice to look at on the walls.

Anyway, I was looking at this post on Buttonbag’s blog, and realised it would be fairly easy to knock together some bunting during one of Millie’s naps. I drew out one of their template sizes, but then slightly changed it to be 12 x 15 x 15 cm. As many of my offcuts of fabric have a tendancy to fray I double sided them right sides together, sewing along both 15cm sides and turned them inside out to have neat triangles. I didn’t have any bias binding to hand, but I did have a long enough piece of satin ribbon, which was wide enough to fold over, making a really neat finish along the top.

It only took about an hour to make seven triangles and finish it off with the ribbon. It’s a very petite set of mini-bunting, but it is the perfect size for the ensuite. Now we just need to choose the right picture for the wall underneath.

A very special frilly apron

After a month away from blogging, concentrating on work and exams (boo!) I’m back with some quick and easy sewing projects.

Firstly, I have wanted to make a little apron for Millie for ages now, but wasn’t sure where to start. So I did a google search and came across this fabulous blog called Yards and Yards. Their pattern for a frilly apron with a pocket looked so ridiculously cute, and will last for a while because it’s adjustable. It can even be made in adult sizes…… which may be another project :)

Anyway, I found the perfect combination of fabric in my stash – an old red and blue floral pillowcase (that had been passed on from my sister in law who rescued it from being thrown out by grandparents!), coupled with a red gingham fat quarter and red satin ribbon. (Total cost less than £3)

All in all it took me about 4 hours to make – the pattern was actually really simple, I’m just still a bit awkward with my sewing machine! Plus I learned how to do a ruffle, which I’ve never done before. I’m really proud of how it turned out and can’t wait to get baking with Millie.
