Hooray for the ‘pop-up’ vintage takeover of the Corn Exchange – even if it is only for a month… Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair is there from from November 4th – 28th and I went along with my sister in law in search of an antidote to the generic scenes of carnage on the Saturday highstreet.
The Corn Exchange itself was beautifully decked out in bunting and with an impressive Christmas tree in the centre, making it feel quite festive. It was so nice to see the shop units in use again, after what seems like an eternity since it was refurbished. The fair has taken over the upstairs level, and there was an array of delights from vintage clothing and homewares to reworked crafts and gifts.
The atmosphere was relaxed and the retailers were friendly and chatty and very knowledgeable about what they were selling. It was like a warren of treasure, and you certainly couldn’t argue with the fact that it was affordable. We managed to find some absolute gems, for ourselves and as Christmas presents. I was particularly pleased with an art deco brooch (£4), a navy blue set of 1960′s beads (£3) and a set of 6 1940s silver teaspoons in their original presentation box (£12) which I am excited to use with my collection of vintage teacups!
If anyone else fancies a break from the norm, for a browse or on the hunt for that interesting gift, then you should check it out and give these independent retailers your support! Hopefully I’ll be heading back there before it leaves.
