Bottega al fresco

Bottega Milanese is officially ready for the summer – iced coffees, ice creams and an outdoor seating area from which to enjoy them and do some people watching from behind your cool oversized sunglasses. There’s also the small bit of genius that involves selling ‘shotcakes’ from Sunshine Bakery, a little bit of a taste sensation in a shot glass…

Not being a big fan of the iced coffees you get from such places as Starbucks, I was keen to try a proper Italian one. I had a lovely iced mocha, which was made with nutella – great if you fancy a long cold slightly sweet drink. Tom had the iced espresso, which was amazing! It was strong and slightly sweetened by a touch of sugar, served really cold with ice cubes, not the usual mr slushy stlye you so often get.

I was also lucky enough to get my paws on a chocolate and mango shotcake. It was small and perfectly formed. I loved the presentation of it, the layers of ganache and mango mousse were very pleasing and the flavours were delicious and rich.

It’s so nice to see this business doing well and expanding. From starting out serving great Italian coffee, to now having an authentic food menu, seasonal variations and collaborating with other local businesses…. it just keeps getting better.

Bottega Milanese

If it wasn’t for Katie’s blog, we might never have stumbled across this tiny espresso bar! And what a shame that would have been!
La Bottega Milanese is on The Calls, but well worth a 5 min detour out of the city centre for such lovely coffee.

Great points:
* strong tasty coffee
* good value – a quid for a single espresso!
* friendly owner
* tempting cake – the best new york cheesecake and Anthony’s cupcakes

I had an amazing choc espresso (with yummy nutella!) and of course, the gorgeous creamy cheesecake.

There are a few stools to perch on (and we did squeeze in with the pram!) but it isn’t the sort of place where you sit with a book. Pop in, have a chat & get a great takeaway coffee to perk up your day. No excuses, its nicer than Starbucks. In fact, it’s now going to be our coffee of choice.

Manhattan Cafe

Just had a lovely late breakfast in the Manhattan Cafe. A little taste of New York in Chapel Allerton. Namely the excellent bagels (esp Tom’s fav cheese & jalapeƱo), blueberry muffins and choice of coffees. And a very funny arrangement of clocks above the door -you’ll see what I mean when you go :o )
